UAE Urges Greater Middle East Alliance to Build Sustainable Tourism
At the recent World Government Summit, UAE Minister of Economy Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri emphasized the need for Middle Eastern nations to align in developing sustainable tourism. With global travel rebounding post-pandemic, he urged leveraging this moment to protect the sector’s future vitality.
“By sharing knowledge, innovations and best practices, Middle East countries can amplify our progress,” said Al Marri. He highlighted the UAE’s willingness to collaborate, noting its rise as a model destination under visionary leadership.
Critical areas for cooperation include climate action, cultural preservation, technology integration, and community engagement. “Stronger together, we can make our region’s tourism offerings more sustainable, competitive, and equitable,” Al Marri noted.
Acknowledging the sector’s immense growth potential and economic contributions, Al Marri positioned tourism as a catalyst for regional stability and prosperity. “Our shared human roots in this cradle of civilization bind us. Welcoming the world to experience our rich heritage and hospitality strengthens that bond.”
Industry leaders echoed Al Marri’s call, citing global trends toward eco-conscious travel. “As a major airline connecting East and West, Emirates is committed to advancing sustainability,” said Chief Operating Officer Adel Al Redha. “We must safeguard our region’s cultural assets while ensuring future generations can share them.”
With the Middle East’s growing cache as a sought-after destination, unified strategies to elevate sustainable practices will enable balancing preservation and progress. As Al Marri summarized, “Our region enjoys an immense opportunity to show the world how to travel responsibly. The time is now to lead the way together.”
