Rwanda is preparing the racetrack to host motorsport’s top governing body in 2024 for its annual General Assembly and star-studded Prize Giving celebration. The International Automobile Federation (FIA), known as the regulatory force behind Formula One and other global racing series, has named Rwanda’s capital city Kigali to preside over the influential December 2024 meetings.

As the oversight authority establishing rules for major international championships, the FIA General Assembly draws members from over 245 national motoring and sporting organizations. With automakers, industry stakeholders, and celebrity guests gathered under one roof, Rwanda will become an unexpected pit stop at the crossroads of sports, business and politics.

While not an obvious choice at first glance, the growing African country has demonstrated commitment to developing motorsports locally from hosting its first-ever FIA-certified track day this year to launching an all-electric vehicle Grand Prix set for 2025. Rwanda’s push into the space helped seal its pick as 2024 FIA Assembly host.

The headlining event promises to accelerate Rwanda’s position as an up-and-coming regional hub for business events and conferences as well. The country has invested substantial resources into infrastructure, facility development and skills training to enable large-scale hosting duties.

It may not be the Monaco Grand Prix, but revving high-powered engines alongside regional leaders demonstrates Rwanda’s drive to compete at the highest levels both on and off the racetrack.
