Rwanda Launches Regional Aviation Training Hub to Develop Local Talent

Kigali, Rwanda – This week Rwanda soared to new heights in aviation education by opening a Centre of Excellence for Aviation Skills (CEAS). The $26.6 million facility aims to cultivate local talent and meet growing workforce demands as Rwanda expands its aviation sector.

The 5-year project is a collaboration between the government and the African Development Bank. CEAS will provide comprehensive training aligned with international standards for careers ranging from pilots to air traffic controllers.

CEO of Rwanda Development Board Francis Gatare hailed the launch, stating CEAS “will usher Rwanda into a new era of opportunity and progress for the aviation sector.” The centre comes as Rwanda invests heavily in aviation infrastructure, including a new international airport underway in Bugesera. The country is also increasing its fleet and routes, with RwandAir taking delivery of two new Airbus jets last year.

As aviation activity ramps up, skilled personnel are urgently required. CEAS will help develop a pipeline of professionals equipped to manage Rwanda’s soaring aviation growth.

The facility will offer pilot training programs utilizing flight simulators, cabin crew courses, aircraft maintenance, and more. By partnering with higher learning institutions, CEAS will also provide aviation degree pathways.

Graduates will gain qualifications fully accredited by authorities like the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. CEAS can serve 500-700 students annually and will recruit candidates from across Africa.

The centre solidifies Rwanda’s reputation as a rising regional aviation hub. With world-class facilities and training standards, CEAS is poised to deliver excellence that will propel Rwanda’s aviation sector to new heights.
