Kigali, Rwanda – This week, Rwanda’s capital launches a new global stage for African creativity as Kigali hosts the inaugural Triennial Festival of arts and culture. From February 16th-25th, over 200 artists from 25 nations will converge to celebrate vibrant contemporary art across the continent.

Jointly organized by Rwanda’s Ministry of Youth and Culture, the City of Kigali, and the Rwanda Arts Initiative, the Kigali Triennial aims to nurture cultural connections and solidify Kigali as an international arts hub. The festival will occur every three years as a premier pan-African arts platform.

Under the theme “Where Art, Knowledge, and Economy Converge,” diverse mediums like visual arts, music, dance, film, and literature will be showcased. Highlights include an international colloquium on arts, photo exhibitions, fashion shows, poetry slams, and street performances.

Rwanda’s Minister of Youth and Culture, Rosemary Mbabazi, stated, “This Triennial positions Kigali to drive important conversations about the role of arts in Africa’s future.”

Kigali has invested in cultural infrastructure like the Kigali Arena and Kigali Cultural Village to stage major events. The Triennial represents the next step in elevating Rwanda’s creative economy and Kigali’s global appeal.

Rwanda Arts Initiative President Hope Azeda added, “This festival celebrates Kigali as an emerging cultural destination while allowing exchange between African artists.”

With participants from across the continent, the Kigali Triennial offers a vibrant platform for cooperation and discovery. Audiences can experience Africa’s tremendous artistic diversity while creators build networks and inspiration.

As it fosters creativity and connections, the Kigali Triennial brings African arts fully into focus on a global stage. The continent’s traditions now fuse with modern mediums, promising an exhilarating display when the festival debuts this month.
