Jordan Revamps Tourism Law to Spur Investment, Growth

Jordan

Amman, Jordan – In a move aimed at turbocharging its vital tourism industry, Jordan’s Cabinet has approved an overhaul of the kingdom’s tourism laws and regulations. The revised Tourism Law of 2024, given the green light on March 3rd, replaces licensing requirements with a more streamlined approval process to attract greater investment.

Under the new amendments, tourism operators will no longer need to obtain licenses from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA). Instead, they will follow an approval mechanism that ensures compliance with relevant legal provisions while reducing bureaucratic hurdles.

“We’re modernizing our laws and policies to foster a business-friendly environment that can unlock tourism’s full growth potential in Jordan,” said Lina Annab, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. “These reforms will catalyze investment, bring new services and offerings for visitors, and create more jobs for Jordanians nationwide.”

The revamped law grants MoTA expanded authority over designating and maintaining major tourist routes and corridors. It also mandates comprehensive standards be set for integrated tourism pathways linking multiple attractions and experiences.

Perhaps most critically, the amendments establish a Tourism Development and Protection Fund, which will finance innovative projects, provide training opportunities, and extend targeted support to local communities, women and youth engaged in the industry.

“By investing back into the sector through this fund model, we can drive sustainable growth that uplifts Jordanians while enriching the tourism product,” Minister Annab stated. “It’s a win-win for communities and businesses alike.”

The sweeping changes didn’t stop with tourism. The Cabinet also ratified reforms making it easier for Jordan’s financial sector to connect and transact across borders via e-linkages between domestic and foreign markets.

Taken together, the spate of new policies and amendments signal Jordan’s determination to overhaul key economic pillars and position itself as an investment hub capitalizing on emerging global trends.

“As the world embraces digitalization and experiences, Jordan is getting ahead of the curve to be a prime destination for capital, talent and visitors,” said Rami Kabariti, president of the Amman Chamber of Commerce. “These are precisely the types of bold reforms that will propel our nation forward.”
