Budapest – Hungary’s booming domestic tourism sector has garnered prestigious accolades this year from China, a pivotal source market for visitors. Top Chinese media outlets recognized Hungary for its thriving tourism appeal and the Hungarian Tourism Agency’s (MTÜ) effective promotions. The honours highlight Hungary’s success in captivating Chinese travellers through tailored marketing and memorable travel experiences.

National Geographic Travel China named Hungary one of the world’s top trending destinations. Meanwhile, leading outlet Voyage China honoured Hungary as 2022’s New Emerging Destination of the Year. With expert coverage driving travel decisions among Chinese consumers, these distinctions signal Hungary’s rising fame.

Further bolstering its reputation, MTÜ earned Outstanding Destination Marketing honors from Trip.com. China’s largest travel platform credited MTÜ’s strategic branding efforts for boosting Hungarian tourism demand.

MTÜ also ranked among the top European tourism agencies on WeChat, China’s dominant social platform. Its WeChat profile earned awards for Most Popular EU Tourism Board Account and Most User-Friendly EU Tourism Board Account.

Attracting Chinese tourists has been a key priority for Hungary’s tourism sector. MTÜ runs a China-focused social media presence and hosts a summit for Chinese travel agents. Partnering with influencers, celebrities and media has also expanded awareness of Hungary’s romantic architecture, therapeutic thermal baths, and picturesque Lake Balaton.

As China reopens international travel, these awards validate Hungary as a favoured European destination. By continuing to court Chinese vacationers through cultural resonance and digital engagement, Hungary can parlay accolades into tangible tourism growth.
