China Cancels Visa Appointment Requirement for Travelers from Kenya
The Chinese Embassy in Kenya has announced the complete cancellation of visa application appointments starting November 20th, 2023. Applicants can now directly submit their visa documents at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Nairobi during operating hours.
The change aims to further facilitate travel and exchange between China and Kenya. With appointments no longer mandatory, the application process is streamlined.

The Embassy provided guidance for smooth application under the new system:
- Complete the visa form accurately online in advance through the Service Center’s website. Download and print the full form to submit along with other required documents.
- Visa processing times and fees remain the same as before.
- Applicants should avoid peak hours if possible when crowds are likely under the appointment-free system.
- Those with existing appointments will still get priority processing when arriving at their allotted times with confirmation.
This significant update follows China’s easing of inbound travel restrictions in recent months after years of COVID-19 border controls. Kenya is a key partner in China’s Belt and Road initiative spanning Africa and Asia.
