Lao PDR – This week, ASEAN expanded its outreach to Chinese travellers by launching a dedicated Chinese-language tourism website. The new site provides a comprehensive guide for exploring the 10 Southeast Asian nations, to boost regional tourism and connectivity.

The user-friendly https://www.visitsoutheastasia.cn platform contains travel information and tour packages catered to Chinese users. Visitors can research destinations, book hotels and flights, and plan their ideal Southeast Asian getaway.

The site launch coincides strategically with the ASEAN-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges in 2024. With China recognized as one of the world’s largest source markets for outbound tourism, the website aims to position Southeast Asia within the Chinese travel market.

According to Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary-General of ASEAN, “This new collaboration will contribute substantially to our recovery efforts while bringing ASEAN closer to China through travel and shared experiences.”

By providing a centralized hub marketing all 10 member states, the website makes it easier for Chinese tourists to appreciate the diversity of Southeast Asia. From Indonesia’s Komodo dragons to the golden temples of Myanmar, website users can explore each country’s unique attractions.

Travelers can also learn about the region’s shared cultural connections with China, including cuisine, beliefs, architecture, and more. With improved air connectivity between China and ASEAN, the website makes regional travel more accessible.

The digital platform was developed under the ASEAN-China Cooperation Fund and Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025. By harnessing the power of tourism, ASEAN aims to stimulate economic growth and enhance mutual understanding post-pandemic.

Chinese travellers have shown eagerness to return to Southeast Asia’s beaches, bustling cities, and stunning landscapes. This new website helps transform that demand into real trips that benefit local businesses and communities. With insight into all 10 member states, Chinese tourists can fully experience the wonder of Southeast Asia.
